Anthony Hinds

Engels producent, studiochef en scenarist, het laatste altijd onder het pseudoniem John Elder. Zoon van juwelier en komiek William Hinds, die onder de naam Will Hammer in 1934 de gelijknamige filmproductiemaatschappij oprichtte (samen met de Spanjaard Enrique Carreras). In 1946 ging Hinds jr. voor Hammer werken en speelde als producent en scenarioschrijver een cruciale rol in de transformatie van obscuur producent van B-films naar een toonaangevende horrorstudio. Zo bedacht hij om uit kostenoverwegingen te gaan draaien in leegstaande landhuizen en verwierf hij de bioscooprechten van een BBC-serie, die bewerkt tot film onder de titel The Quatermass Xperiment/The Creeping Unknown (Val Guest, 1954) een grote hit werd.
