Amerikaans acteur, stuntman, dierentrainer en regisseur. Veelzijdige en lange carrière in genrefilms resulteerde in de regie van titels als Kingdom of the Spiders (1977), The Dark (als vervanger van de ontslagen Tobe Hooper, tevens productie; 1979) en The Day Time Ended (1979). Zoon van de bioscoopexploitant van het beroemde Egyptian Theatre aan Hollywood Boulevard, werkte aanvankelijk als wrangler, leverancier en trainer van paarden en andere dieren voor speelfilms, zoals westerns met Roy Rogers en Gene Autry. Ook was hij verantwoordelijk voor de vogels in The Birds (Alfred Hitcock, 1963) en eerder op kleinere schaal in Psycho (Hitchcock, 1960).
